New To Sourdough?

Fall in love with bread baking.

We are super excited to have you on board. We believe it’s never too late to learn something new, so the mission of our website is to help you develop new skills, fall in love with bread baking and perhaps create a passion for life—just like we at Sourdough Fever did several years ago!

Baking sourdough bread may sound a little overwhelming at first, so we are here to guide you through the process. You’ll need to plan ahead before you start, and your success with bread baking will partially depend on the tools you use—so in our baking tools guide we have listed what we think is the minimum equipment required to bake your first bread.

You will also need to prepare a sourdough starter in advance, before baking your first loaf. It takes 5-7 days to develop a strong and ready-to-use starter, but once you have it, you’ll be able to bake bread every day, or once a week or, really, as often as you like. Our beginner’s sourdough recipe was designed specifically for those new to bread baking, and includes detailed steps and instructions of the techniques used. Once you get familiar with the process, there is plenty of room for more—you’ll find other recipes in our Sourdough Bread section.

There might be a lot of questions along the way, and new vocabulary to get familiar with. That’s where our sourdough FAQ section may come handy—we have answered some of the most common questions asked by new bakers. Our glossary terms will help you understand the terminology used in bread making. To track your progress, we recommend our printable Sourdough Record Keeping PDFs (use it to record your ingredients, timings, temperatures, techniques and results).

And remember, you can always ask a question via the comments on the website—we are here to help!
